Kananaskis Improvement District |
||
BackgroundThe Kananaskis Improvement District was established on August 26, 1996 by the Honorable Ty Lund, Minister of Municipal Affairs, through Ministerial Order 53/96. The primary purpose of the KID is to provide effective local government and municipal services to the residents of Kananaskis Country. A secondary purpose is to work with, and provide input to, the Province of Alberta with respect to land use and resource management within the Improvement District. The KID is responsible to the Minister of Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation and delivers a portfolio of services that include municipal administration, disaster and emergency services, fire protection, public health and welfare, street lighting, waste management, waste water collection and treatment, water treatment and distribution and noxious weed control. To accomplish this mandate, the KID is managed under a unique local governance model, which recognizes its close relationship with Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation and Alberta Sustainable Resource Development. |
